There is one thing you completely ignore in your analysis, though it is probably one of the main factors for our bad season: the incompetence and corruption of the refs. We would have at least 10 points more without the inexplicable ref decisions that went against us this season. This is at least as important for our league position as the individual errors. I also don’t agree with the “you can’t get the stupidity out of some players”. Looking at the useless hate and abuse the plastic “fans” throw at some players, it is just natural that they are nervous and make stupid mistakes.

I know you said ‘if’ but the concept of winning the Europa is so far out there – like winning the lottery big so I’ll dismiss that right now.

However, as seems likely we will not even get Europa next season which means the league will be so much the focus. The league cup and fa cup will be extra extra important next season but not for winning! They will be the ONLY games where squad players/youngsters will get a chance – an unlucky draw and you could see just 2 or 3 games next season for the up and coming players. I am already worried about Balogun, Nikith, Azeez could have perhaps 3 or 4 games the whole season and another year out of their career gone.

There is an irony as well in that if a Europa win means Champions League then its also bad for those same players as the games are more important and so fringe players will get less chances. I cannot believe I am saying this but the Europa suits Arsenal for a while until the club gets into decent working order again with a purpose and being competitive.

So, forget waiting for September – we really really need to up our game THIS SEASON to get a Europa place because its bloody serious situation if we do not.
