West Ham have always had a better support and atmosphere than Arsenal – Home and Away. Arsenal only sing when they are winning and since the move to the Emirates, one of the most dreadful atmospheres in the Prem. West Ham still sing even when getting battered. If we used atmosphere and passion as a metric, then West Ham are a bigger club.

Insulting? Really? So you think that West Ham are as big as Arsenal? I’m genuinely not trying to be arrogant here but what is your basis? Trophies? League position? Fanbase size? Like, in whatever metric you look at – Arsenal ARE bigger than West Ham. Much like Madrid, Barca and Man United ARE bigger than Arsenal – it’s tough to argue that.

Sorry, but you need to take your claret and blue tinted glasses off mate.

I don’t know too many journos who have said ‘he will join’ to be honest. I even think me personally I said “will never happen, he’ll go to Chelsea” when I first heard. Didn’t know that about Ireland tho. I think it’s harsh to say ‘dumps’ for West Ham tho – without any disrespect, he wants to play in the CL and I think Arteta has been quite motivating factor for him. Agree – he wasn’t amazing in the Euro final but I think the reason you’ve managed to get £100m for him has been his end of season form, which has been amazing in general.

Hi ..West Ham fan here.
For me…Im not pissed off he has gone to Arsenal..Im pissed off that we have bent over backwards to raise his profile…He was offered £200.000 a week two years ago …When he turned that down ..We made him captain!…Your right he is not worth £100M…And West Ham fans were told when we moved to the new stadium we would not be selling our best players..Thats what i think is really pissing off the West Ham support..The fact its dragging on for ever doesn’t help….He is no legend btw….Legends hang around a bit longer…I also feel that playing for Arsenal will ramp his profile up a few more notches…Be interesting to see the length of deal he signs…

It’s not that difficult. Dec was our best player and we didn’t want to lose him. We’ve had to endure a club we consider no bigger than ourselves take him away, when we think we could offer just as much (apart from half a dozen games in the CL next season). The inference that it’s a ‘step-up’ is insulting, and while Arsenal may be a preferable destination over clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd (Spurs don’t even come into it), it’s difficult to see on what grounds it can be justified given the boy’s stated desire to win trophies (Arsenal could struggle to make top four in the PL next season, given their European involvement, and the possibility of CL success is laughable). Nobody at West Ham hates Arsenal (as far as I’m aware), but it’s a bit naive to think we’re going to be happy about having the heart and soul of our football club – which is what Dec represented – ripped out (which is how it feels). Yes, players move on and we’ve been well compensated. That doesn’t make it any easier to take.

Ok.The spammers who are upset? That’s because he’s going to a London rival & neighbour.That’s why they would have preferred citeh or abroad.Closer to home tends to rub their noses in it.Don’t like to admit Arsenal are the more successful,bigger club(.Which by the way,have convinced themselves they are on a par with winning a Euro trophy & a ground that has slightly larger capacity.)Albeit given to them & currently rented.
Secondly,thanks to “bug eyes Moyes “acting big time Charlie,bandied the figure of £120 million as what they want.Didn’t help the situation.They wanted an auction,thinking Arsenal would pull out & could mock our attempts to Nick their captain.That failed.
So ,curious to know were these same fans so pissed off with Fat Frank Lampard when he slid off to the chavs?for a then record fee £11 million.

I think most West Ham fans see the rice transfer as more of a sidewards move rather than a move that guarantees trophies.
And for that reason most West Ham fans are puzzled to why he has decided to move, considering how highly he talks of West Ham.
The real anger is only by a minority, and West Ham’s bad season spent more in a relegation fight than challenging the top 4 probably played a big part in the move.
If chelsea had qualified for the champions league though, he probably would have gone there.
The lad seems like a decent lad, trying to juggle staying close to family as well as realising his goals of playing in the champions league. His loyalty though, may men he gets to play champions league, but never lifts a trophy

I think that some West Ham fans are annoyed because the Arsenal media and many ex players have been saying that Rice will sign for Arsenal since the World Cup. I would also suggest that any hatred is towards Rice rather than Arsenal. Rice says all the right things, kisses the badge etc but we all know that he is totally fake. He cried with pride on his Irish debut but didn’t hesitate to switch to England. Look at him, look at his head. He is Irish. West Ham made him into the player he is and he dumps us for Arsenal. Arsenal are bigger than West Ham but be honest, you are not Manchester City. Yes you ran them close but only for one year so far. I don’t hate Arsenal but I will smile and think of Rice every time they lose. I’m very happy with the fee whilst also having no doubt we’ll waste it. I’m glad to see the back of him because it was all about him. He didn’t lead us to the euro Cup win, he didn’t play in many of the games and did you see him during the final?

came across your article from a west ham news site which lays out all news related to West Ham. to be truthful I have no issue rice going to arsenal I think the fee is a lot but fair for Rice’s value to West Ham. I think your right though there is a fraction of west Ham fans angry online over this transfer but not to do with Arsenal itself but more that a fraction of the arsenal fans have been winding up West Ham fans. All twitter wars and games I wouldn’t take too much from it. I personally won’t be booing rice on his return to play us but to be truthful I won’t support him either. I feel very indifferent towards most players that leave west ham! good article though!
