Todays ramblings from me will be a slightly different take on the 2-2 draw at Liverpool yesterday. That’s because I’m viewing it through the prism of not having watched the game, as I was with The Management’s family having an Easter dinner and so I physically couldn’t watch the game.

But I did check in at points, so just before Liverpool got back in the game with their first goal I saw that we were 2-0 up and that came as a big surprise to me. I’ve been talking about how we always get beaten at Anfield and beaten quite heavily during the week, so I absolutely would have taken a point before the game, but when you are 2-0 up away from home having had the best away record in the league up until this point in the season, then you would normally go on to expect to win.

I then checked the halftime score and saw it was 2-1 and at that point I think in my head I was telling myself “would you still take a draw if offered?”. And the answer I came to was “yes”. And I think in the cold light of day I still feel the same; Liverpool is a tough place to go, I thought we’d lose, that point puts us six ahead having played a game more than City and so we still maintain a decent lead over them.

I’ll take it.

But then after the match when I hopped on to Twitter and started conversing with friends about the game, it seemed as though many felt that this was an opportunity missed, especially given how well we supposedly played in the first half. We sounded like up until a Granit Xhaka incident and a quick goal for Liverpool thereafter, we were playing like a team in a title race, so to let them back in perhaps showed a little bit of naivety.

But there would always be a response from this Liverpool side and given just how good they are at home, I don’t think any Arsenal fan would have expected anything else other than to be put under the kosh in the second half. And that we were by the looks of it. Liverpool created a hatful of chances, they got a penalty which was clumsy by Holding, but I’m not going to go town on him too much as it sounds like he played ok overall. But Salah should have scored that and it would have brought them back to 2-2 with more than 35 minutes to play and the result may have looked a little different had Liverpool got back level then.

Then you’re looking at the fact that they scored in the last few minutes and it feels like it’s frustrating having not watched the game, but again I am not too stressed today. Roberto Firmino can bugger off out of England hopefully, because he always seems to bloody score against us and the fact that he’s announced he’ll be leaving at the end of the season…well…I’m sure many Arsenal fans are glad. He drew them level at the Emirates having come on from the bench and he did the same yesterday; come May, it’ll be ‘good riddance’ from my perspective, I can tell you that much!

Then it sounds like Ramsdale’s saves saves us a point at the death and those couple of moments at the end probably put even more of a shine on this result as a ‘point gained’ rather than two lost. We have a week now to prepare for West Ham and hopefully it is a week to get the game plan set to try to pick up all three points on the road again. Winning football matches is hard – especially on the road – so next weekend will be no easy task, despite how terrible West Ham were against Newcastle last weekend.

Overall my emotions remain in tact, we are one more game down, we have eight cup finals to go and we have to keep doing our thing and hope that City slip up, however unlikely that is looking at the moment (and certainly won’t happen next weekend as they play the second worst team in the league in the shape of Leicester.

That’s it from me today. An obvious short one on account of me not having seen the game in full, but if you want to relive it with the guys on the pod last night, you can do so on the Same Old Arsenal YouTube channel here.

Back tomorrow with more ramblings!
